Chilling new vision from inside Westfield Bondi Junction has been shown at the inquest into the deadly stabbing rampage in April 2024, capturing the final moments before police took down killer Joel Cauchi.
The footage, released with permission from victims' families, shows Inspector Amy Scott entering the shopping centre’s Level 5 with her firearm drawn, flanked by two tradies who had risked their lives moments earlier to confront the attacker with makeshift weapons.
CCTV reveals Cauchi lunging at another man outside an art store before Scott rounds the corner and issues warnings for bystanders to take cover.
“I thought he was going to kill me,” Scott told the court.

She then fired three shots, fatally wounding Cauchi and ending the attack.
The chaos unfolded over a span of 85 seconds, with the police response being described by senior officers as “textbook”.
Also shown at the inquest was a detailed 3D reconstruction created by NSW Police, mapping out the attack in clarity. The digital render plots Cauchi’s path through the mall, the locations of each stabbing, and the trajectory of the final confrontation.
The visualisation is intended to assist the coroner in understanding not just what unfolded but how fast.
The inquest also heard from counter-terror expert Detective Chief Superintendent Colin Green, who called for greater public awareness of the “escape, hide, tell” protocol. He said civilians need to be trained to react quickly during unpredictable attacks.
