The Michelin Guide Ceremony for Great Britain & Ireland 2025 took place on 10 February at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum in Glasgow.
A total of 1,147 restaurants were included in the selection, with a wide variety of establishments across Ireland celebrated on the night.
New Stars
Irish food fanatics will be delighted to learn that Ballyfin Demesne was awarded One Michelin Star at tonight's ceremony - their first ever Michelin star.
Situated at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in Co. Laois, Ballyfin is a five-star country house hotel with a gourmet restaurant.
The hotel itself earned the new Michelin Key distinction in late 2024, earning 'Three Keys' for its impressive service, but the kitchen was left to wait for its own recognition.
Under the stewardship of Executive Chef Ricard Picard-Edwards, who is renowned for his use of seasonal Irish produce, the fine-dining restaurant offers a rich variety meals made with fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs all grown on the estate's 614 acres
Prior to joining Ballyfin in April 2023, Picard-Edwards was Executive Head Chef at Lartington Hall, Barnard Castle, Durham, and before this, at Lords of the Manor, Upper Slaughter in The Cotswolds where he received his first Michelin Star in 2014, as well as 3 AA rosettes.
In November 2023, the chef told The Irish Times that he had great expecations for his new home: "First and foremost, the guests have got to enjoy the food and the food has got to fit the property. But yeah, I would love to have a Michelin star again."
Commenting on the prestigious award, Picard-Edwards said: "We are absolutely thrilled with today’s news. This is a wonderful accolade to receive and I’m very proud of our hard work at Ballyfin and the team’s dedication.
"We are inspired each day by the extraordinary 19th century eight-acre walled garden that is any chef’s dream to pick produce from."
Other Irish restaurants earning their first Michelin Stars include The Morrison Room in Carton House whose chef Adam Nevin impressed inspectors with "inventiveness".
Over in Galway, LIGИUM made the leap to Star status thanks to Danny Africano using wood-fired flavours to let his produce really shine. Using the smoky aromas of the wood fire to subtly enhance his top-notch ingredients without ever overpowering them, Michelin says there's a "thrillingly creative streak" to his cooking.

Retained One Star
Elsewhere on the night, the team at Mount Juliet Estate in Kilkenny celebrated the Lady Helen restaurant as it retained its Michelin star award for the 12th consecutive year. A tremendous achievement for Chef John Kelly and his culinary team.
Speaking on the achievment, Kelly said:, "We have custodian responsibility of the Lady Helen and of its Michelin star. There is a lot of creativity and passion here with the team and being awarded the Michelin star for the 12th year is recognition of that dedication to innovation and the talent of the culinary and service teams here."

The team at Castlemartyr Resort were also celebrating as Terre restaurant retained its two Michelin Star status at The Michelin Guide UK & Ireland awards.
Commenting on this achievement, Chef Patron Vincent Crepel at Terre said: "I am absolutely thrilled with the news that Terre has retained its two Michelin Stars. Firstly, to be awarded two Stars at last year's ceremony was a phenomenal achievement but to retain this accolade is certainly special. It reflects the hard work, commitment and dedication from all the team."

Special Award
Daróg had even more to celebrate on the night when co-owner Zsolt Lukács was given the Sommelier Award.
The last of the Special Award winners, this wine bar and bistro was cheered for its warm, welcoming atmosphere, which was credited to Zsolt himself.
"He is an engaging, dedicated man who is clearly so passionate about the wine list he has curated here. His recommendations are knowledgeable and thoughtfully considered, then communicated to guests in a refreshingly unpretentious way that makes them feel relaxed and comfortable."
