Sabrina Carpenter's hairstylist on the top trends for 2025

Los Angeles-based hair stylist Laurie Heaps has been working her was up the industry ladder for over 20 years, but has recently become best known for styling the lusterous locks of pop star Sabrina Carpenter.

The Redken ambassador says she has always been passionate about hair-styling and was initially drawn to the "ability to transform someone's look and make them feel confident."

Her first big break came when Michael Jacobs, the creator of Boy Meets World, asked her to cut the cast's hair: "That opportunity led to me joining the union and working on the show, which helped launch my career in the industry."

These days, Heaps has an enviable list of celebrity clients including Danielle Fishel, Abby Elliott, Miranda Cosgrove, Barbie Ferreira, Rowan Blanchard and, of course, Sabrina Carpenter.

Having worked together on Girl Meets World - the follow up to Boy Meets World - Heaps began working with a baby-faced Sabrina who starred on the show from 2014 - 2017.

The two have continued their working relationship, with Heaps delivering Sabrina's signature curtain bangs, Brigitte Bardot-inspired up-dos, and glamorous soft curls.

Speaking on her recent appearance at the Grammys, the hair stylist says that they wanted her colour to be "bright and creamy, making sure it had that gorgeous, luminous blonde effect under the lights".

"Since we knew her hair had to go up to complement the dress, we were very intentional with the cut -keeping her bangs longer so they would frame her face beautifully when styled. It was all about creating balance and softness while still making a statement on the red carpet."

When it comes to awards season, every ocassion must be approached with the utmost consideration as so many factors come into play.

"For awards season, the process is always a collaboration," she says. "I work closely with my client and their stylist to create a look that complements the overall vision-whether it's inspired by the outfit, the event, or a certain vibe we want to achieve.

"I don't actually use mood boards, but it's more about sensing inspiration from reference photos and pulling elements that feel right. It's all about bringing the best version of the client's style to life while making sure their hair looks effortless and polished for the red carpet."

This year's Grammys saw a lot of vintage hairstyles on display, will this be a trend we'll see more of in 2025?

"Vintage-inspired hairstyles definitely had a moment at the Grammys, with looks like Doechi's structured waves, Cardi B's sculpted updo, and Sabrina's soft, face-framing bangs. There's something timeless about vintage glamour, and I think we'll continue to see modern takes on classic styles in 2025 - especially with more polished finishes and softer, voluminous shapes."

"As for other trends, healthy, high-shine hair will be a big focus. Scalp care has become a major part of hair routines, and that's translating into hair that looks naturally strong and glossy. I also think we'll see a mix of effortless, undone textures alongside more structured, statement styles-playing with contrast and versatility."
